Well I finally found a copy on Amazon at a price I wanted to pay. $4 in fact. I posted about this book a few times in the past. My sister had it - she can't remember where she got it, it was an old and ratty copy when let me have it. I must have read it the first time when I was in my early teens, and she made me promise to keep it hidden. She had a lot of stuff that had to stay hidden, lol... anyhow... somewhere along the way it got lost, or tossed out. I have no idea. She didn't take it, and she was a little pissed when I told it I couldn't find it. When I moved out of the house I searched high and low.... gone... I figured, oh well, no big deal. But this book had an enormous effect on me, and I read it many many times. The lead character Jules has a troubled life and is having difficulty making the transition to being adult. Sex is mentioned on nearly every page. Jules has little encounters of all kinds, with all sort of people. I'm not going to go on and on about it, just that there was a chapter where she is on vacation with her mother, and she has her first period - a very bad one. She is devastated by this because she can't go swimming. And she teases a local boy about the fact that she's menstruating, and he gets upset about it, but she forces him to see the blood. And he kisses it. So, to me, this was all very weird and confusing. So I read it over and over. It wasn't until I was 16 or 17 that it began to dawn on me that the story intrigued me so much because I identified with so much that was going on in the book. And now I have a copy of it again! Cath was not impressed, lol. But she said she will read it when I'm done reminiscing.

I see the book has been turned into a movie: www.imdb.com/title/tt0066277/You can watch the movie online (German dialogue): www.youtube.com/watch?v=amOtgHMckVU&index=1&list=PLF9C092901DEF8C98The movie is also available on other websites, but I haven't checked to see if there's an English language version online. I wonder if the part of the book dealing with her first period made it into the movie? Or is the movie like the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie, which left out the book's tampon removal scene.

I can relate to Kayo's post. A long time ago (I can't even remember how many years), because of my proclivities, I read Judy Blume's novel Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. It inspired me to dress a bit more, um, completely (don't ask). A little bit of googling came up with this clip of a movie adaptation: vimeo.com/50735488Thanks to my high school German, I can follow along a little to the set of 6 Youtube videos of "A Girl Called Jules" found by maxpad23. Before the globalization of the film industry, there were a lot of European films that were dubbed into other languages, either with visible subtitles or with dubbing of the voices. I see this Italian film was dubbed into German by a "Synchron" studio in Berlin. Curiously, the dubbed USA version was titled "Jet Set Swingers". Remember, distributors could still get busted back then for releasing sex films. Movie posters for the USA version are being sold on ebay. There are sites on the internet offering free downloads of the English version, but my anti-virus went off on two of them, so no thanks. As for the guy who released the USA version, there is a retrospective of his involvement here: bryininberlin.blogspot.com/2014/09/rip-harry-h-novak-part-vii-1970.htmlAs time permits, I will screen the German-dubbed version and report where to find on-topic content, if it made it to the film version.

OK - Found it. Das Mädchen Julius (1970) (3/6) www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xvk9EX6XIXIAt the 2 minute 12 second point. It is the usual "Congratulations, you are now a woman" speech. The German language closed captioning was obviously machine generated. Because of the muddy sound, it only gets about 50% of the dialog right.

So when she wakes up, she discovers that she's "become a woman".
Thanks for finding this, Crossdresser!
