It was 40 years ago this summer I learned on my own how women's bodies worked. I was 8 years old. I was visiting my grandmother. She had 2 encyclopedia sets, plus having had four daughters, I found interesting reading at her house. I was intrigued by it all, but found periods to be most fascinating.
This obsession continued into adulthood. However lately I just can't get into them any more. Damnit people, how do I fix this? :-)
I used to enjoy writing short stories around periods. Today when I do they seem forced and redundant. I get bored with it early into the story and feel like I've written it before.
Any interesting reads you can suggest? Or should I accept I've gone through my own personal menopause and it's over?

Chapter 1
July 4th
Jacob finally caught up to Cecilia next to the Dania Beach Pier.
"Slow poke!" she said while playfully poking him in the side.
"Yeah, well, I'm tired because I was doing all the work this morning poking you!" he said while bent over, trying to catch his breath from the run along the beach.
Cecilia opened her mouth wide in a cute smile and said "Thanks a lot! I was participating too."
Jacob grabbed Cecilia and pulled her close.
"You weren't this sweaty in bed."
She kissed him.
"I'm a woman, I don't sweat in bed."
"That's because you weren't moving. You were like fucking a corpse."
"Excuse me! How many corpses have you fucked?"
"You were warmer than one though."
She hugged him.
"I'm so glad we met."
"So am I."
They held hands and walked off the beach and up to the pier.
"I was so scared to leave Eau Claire. Alone. Leaving a small Midwestern town for south Florida just seemed so..."
"Crazy?"
"You're a guy. I'm sure it wouldn't have fazed you to pick up and move. Everything went wrong. Then I met you."
"The Broward County Chamber of Commerce has me on speed dial for this sort of thing."
"Ha ha."
They got to the end. Cecilia removed the elastic from her ponytail letting her hair down.
"Jacob, I have something to tell you. I lied to you."
"Was it a big lie or a little lie?"
"What do you mean?"
"Did you lie about beige being your favorite color?"
"What is so weird about that?"
"It's boring."
"No, white is boring. Beige is beautiful. And yes, your wholesome Scandinavian girl from the Midwest lied to you with all her blonde haired, blue eyed glory."
Jacob started walking the width of the pier, parallel to the beach.
"Are you going to tell me?"
"Remember a couple of weekends ago when I told you I went to South Beach with some of the girls from work?"
"Yeah."
"I didn't. I was at home curled up in the fetal position hoping I would die."
"My god, what happened?"
"It's what happens to be every month. I have horrible PMS and even worse periods."
Jacob caught an elderly couple out of the corner of his eye. He figured with their aged eardrums and the wind they couldn't hear the conversation, but he still nudged Cecilia to keep walking.
"I know that's a totally gross thing to tell you. But I really like you and figured you would find out soon enough."
"A lot of women have PMS."
"Jacob, no. A lot of women have mild irritability. I have industrial strength PMS."
"How bad can it be?"
"You have no idea. None."
"I have dated before."
"Jacob, you're sweet. And I think you're trying to be understanding. I have lost boyfriends over this. It's that bad."
"They were probably assholes."
"Not all of them. When I was a teenager my dad used to tell me he was going to take me to get me spayed."
Jacob snorted.
"It's not funny! What if you mother threatened to have your balls chopped off because you had wet dreams every night?"
"I didn't have wet dreams."
"You probably humped your pillow every night."
"Where do you get this stuff?" Jacob said with a mild laugh.
"I had a brother. Who is probably permanently turned off by women from growing up with me."
"We'll work through it. I love you Cecilia."
"I love you too. I just don't want to lose you."
"Isn't this considered PMDD?"
"How have you heard about that?"
"I read."
"PMS. PMDD. PMT. Bipolar depression. Doctors have called it everything."
"Drugs?"
"Birth control pills. Prozac. Xanax. Nothing helped."
"Wow."
"I should be okay the rest of the week, but next weekend I'm going to be the cunt from hell."

I think food is the greatest inspiration for me at that time of the month. I maintain a guide régime, so that I can eat all the healthy food items.
