A video, "100 Years of Periods", posted by Allure magazine on YouTube, makes a couple of interesting points: - the first menstrual cup came on the market in about 1937, but rubber shortages during World War 2 put the company out of business,
- washable "health sponges" were available in the 1940s, and
- in 1969, experts said there is no medical reason to avoid period sex (given the number of period sex articles in women's magazines in recent years, you could be forgiven for thinking this was a recent thing).
The video has attracted a mind boggling 12,477 comments, so plenty of people have an opinion on the subject!
