This new Kotex Overnight Panties product has just been launched in Singapore.
The product and the ads and publicity for it really show the differences in attitude about periods between Western countries and Asia. I cant imagine many Western women wearing what essentially is a pull-up diaper for their period, and no chance that any Social Media celebrity would endorse them and produce videos showing her actually wearing them! Very nice she looks too! Easy to find on Youtube by searching for the product name.
There are other interesting English-Speaking promotional videos for pads from Asia also, for example the "Be Empowered by Laurier" series. They seem to treat them as any other product such as tissues or toothpaste. No taboo at all, and many of the videos are made by mixed groups of men and women. All very different to the West.

Very fascinating. I actually think that you could market and sell those in western countries pretty successfully. It's not that there's no demand for a product like this in the USA, it's that none of the "big three" are offering such a product. These are intended for overnight use, which is when most women tend to have the highest chance of leaking, especially women with a heavy flow. (I know at least two who change the way they sleep specifically to try and avoid or at the very least, minimize leakage during the heaviest nights of their period.) Kimberly-Clark actually did try a Kotex product similar to these in the US 20 years ago (Kotex Personals,) and the problem wasn't that nobody wanted the "pull-on" diaper design, but that you still needed to use a pad or tampon with it. Market these to women in the US and other western countries, aim them at heavy bleeders who leak frequently at night, and push the whole convenience angle of not having to waste time scrubbing panties/sheets when doing laundry, and you could sell these in the western would pretty easily. Actually, push them as a travel accessory for long trips too if you really want to drive up sales. When my girlfriend and I took a long flight on the heaviest day of her period awhile back she went from wearing overnight maxi pads in the day as she usually does to wearing a diaper knowing full well that it was just going to last longer than a regular pad would. It's not like she's the only person I know whose done this either. This product isn't aimed at light bleeders, it's aimed at the people who wake up looking like their bed was in the starring role of a Tarantino film, and there's definitely a market for a similar product in the US at an affordable price.
Actually, there are two somewhat similar products sold in the US, but I'm convinced almost nobody knows about them because they're not sold in regular retail stores nationwide. PantiePads manufactures two products, one called PantiePads and the other called UndiePads, and they're both basically a disposable panty with an integrated menstrual pad. They're actually quite amazing, absorb better than anything else I've seen, don't leak at night, (my girlfriend can sleep normally,) and are great for travel. The problem is that a box of three of them costs between $7.50-$10.00 depending on the product and where you buy it from, so it can't be used on a regular basis. A comparable product is MyPrettyPanty which is sold in Wal-Mart in Atlanta and online anywhere, but I haven't tried it yet and can't be sure it's as good as PantiePads. The one big difference between these and the Kotex Overnight Panties is that they don't look or feel like a diaper, instead looking and feeling like regular panties with an integrated pad in them. The Kotex Overnight Panties do have more of a diaper look to them, but the concept of integrating the pad into a panty is pretty much the same. Slapping a known name with a presence in physical stores like "Kotex" on one of these products would likely only increase their popularity. I've yet to recommend them to someone who hasn't liked them, which leads me to believe that there is a market for such a product.
Still, this was a really nice find Padman! If I knew someone stateside who could ship some to me, I'd definitely want a couple of packages of these to try some and add a package to my collection of menstrual products. I just need someone who can ship them from the states as a middleman of sorts since customs forms aren't discreet and I'm sure the contents would raise a few questions among people who know me.
Oh, and I thought of one other reason you could push these in the states. Right now the whole U by Kotex thing is about periods being normal and not being ashamed of having menstrual products in your purse or under your sink. The whole "sometimes I need what's basically a 'period diaper' at night" concept would fit in with that mentality pretty well.
