When I was browsing online recently, I saw an ad for a new Australian product, Hey Zomi reusable menstrual discs: www.heyzomi.com/. I know you can buy menstrual discs online from overseas suppliers, but as far as I know, HZ is the only Australian manufacturer of discs. There's a couple of videos on the HZ website that are worth watching, particularly the video that compares the menstrual cup and the menstrual disc: www.heyzomi.com/pages/how-to-use. According to the vid, the disc is better because it's easier to remove, allows for mess free period sex, and it holds more menstrual fluid than the cup. One thing I didn't realise until I watched the video is that they're positioned differently. The cup is placed just inside the vagina, while the disc sits up against the cervix. Cups are an alternative to tampons, and in Australia, they seem to be growing in popularity. It'll be interesting to see if discs make any impact on the market - I'm thinking that cups have a couple of advantages - they are available in stores (for now at least, you can only buy the discs from the website), and while a lot of Aussie women would have at least heard of menstrual cups, I'm not sure how many of them would know about menstrual discs.
