www.thesun.ie/living/1216787/periods-do-not-make-women-less-mentally-sharp-or-affect-brain-power-research-reveals/The three key hormones that rise and fall during the menstrual cycle — oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone — have been said to affect everything from memory to concentration. But researchers analysed a group of women over more than just one cycle — unlike previous studies — and found there were no long-term changes. Overall, none of the hormones the team studied had any replicable, consistent effect on the women’s cognition. The team, which also included researchers at the Medical School Hanover in Germany, recruited 88 Swiss and German women who underwent detailed monitoring of the cognitive processes at different stages in the menstrual cycle.
